The 2019 American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Annual Meeting, March 12-16, in Las Vegas, provides attendees with outstanding orthopaedic education (33 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits), networking, product introduction, and technology innovation all under one roof. The “Your Academy 2019” session on Thursday, March 14, at 10:30 a.m. offers the opportunity to hear AAOS leadership, including an incoming Presidential Address from Kristy L. Weber, MD. The American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) 2018 Annual Meeting promises an outstanding program. The American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR) is looking forward to attending and seeing you in Dallas, Texas, on November 1 – 4, 2018.

The AAHKS Annual Meeting attracts orthopaedic surgeons specializing in hip and knee replacement from around the world, fellows just starting their careers, and orthopaedic surgical team members. Where can you engage with AJRR during your visit? At the podium, in the poster exhibition, and in the Learning Center/Exhibit Hall. Be sure to visit the AJRR exhibit (Table #4) and pick up your copy of the new AJRR 2018 Annual Report.

Orthopaedic nurses are important stakeholders in the mission and success of registries. Like other health care practitioners, they improve orthopaedic care through the collection, analysis, and reporting of actionable registry data that contributes to better patient outcomes.

The National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses (NAON) was formed after a meeting convened by Nancy Hesselbach, RN, and Barbara Fiehler, RN, with fellow orthopaedic nurses at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Annual Meeting on March 8, 1980 and incorporated April 14, 1980 in Missouri. NAON's mission promotes orthopaedic research, education, and nursing practice. At their 38th Annual Congress on May 19-22, 2018 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, educational offerings about registries will include presentations from both AJRR and the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA). Today's blog provides a preview of presentation content that helps fulfill NAON's mission, along with making a difference to hospital, physician practice, and nursing quality improvement.

Plus Highlights From the Annual In-person Unet Meeting

In 2017, and again in 2018, the AJRR User Group Network (Unet) more than doubled its registered members over the prior year*. Since its inception, the Unet value equation has been defined by benchmarking, shared experience, and best practice learning opportunities. Quarterly calls/webinars and the annual in-person meeting help forge collaborative user relationships and provide exposure to guest experts in the registry field. For real-time answers to immediate challenges, participation in the Unet Forum is available. Speak with someone who has already been there, and done that! Find minutes and slides from previous Unet calls and in-person meetings in the Unet Forum. Engagement is free and the rapidly growing number of registrants speaks to the value Unet delivers.

You will have several opportunities to hear AJRR Steering Committee Chair Kevin J. Bozic, MD, MBA, and AJRR Medical Director David G. Lewallen, MD, speak at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) 2018 Annual Meeting. Today we will have a conversation with each. Our blog will "sample" some of the salient points they plan to make during their respective presentations. We are also alerting you to a poster on the correlation between hospital size and revision indication and where total joint arthroplasty (TJA) revision surgery is performed. All three offerings have high relevance to registry participants.
